We are thrilled to present our first solo show, by local artist Timo Juntunen.
The exhibition, titled Parafur and other chaise longings will show in the gallery’s small room from 1 to 16 April 2017, with an opening event on Friday 31 March from 6 to 8 pm.
Regular visitors to the gallery will be familiar with Timo’s creations. It is his large sculpture that stands elegantly in the gallery garden, saluting the sky. Timo’s small carved birds, hand-made furniture and notebooks have been extremely popular in the gallery.
Timo splits his time between Goughs Bay and Melbourne, finding inspiration locally in birdlife and natural settings. He is an artist who works in many media and refuses to be bound by category or classification, choosing instead to make his own way in a world of observation and ideas.
Parafur and other chaise longings explores ideas about longing – the longing for the unreachable, the lost, the past and the far away.
The show will feature a hand-made couch, gilt-framed paintings, porcelain birds and works on paper. All works are for sale.
Visitors to the 2016 Median to Rare sculpture competition held by Arts Council Mansfield may remember the couch, which Timo exhibited surrounded with carefully placed sticks and flowers.
Timo’s artworks will challenge the expectations of the viewer, with shapes, materials, colours and placement in the room inspired by the ideas of the Baroque, the sublime and the ephemeral.
Parafur and other chaise longings opens on Friday 31 March, from 6 to 8 pm.
The exhibition remains open from 1 to 16 April.
